State Of The Pac-12: It’s All About The Washington Huskies

We’re a third of the way through the 2016 Pac-12 Season and the Huskies have made one thing clear.

It’s Washington’s conference and we’re all just living in it, is the best way to describe 2016 in the Conference of Champions. The Huskies ended 12-years of frustration by destroying Oregon at Autzen Stadium 70-21.

They’ve looked extremely impressive after slipping away from Arizona week one of conference play in Tucson, having dismantled the past two PAC-North champions in back-to-back weeks. Surprisingly Washington State is the only other unbeaten after three weeks of league play.

Mike Leach’s team went to Palo Alto and shook things up by sending the Cardinal to their second straight defeat to Apple Cup foes. Defensively, the Cougars have improved which isn’t something you’d expect to see out of Pullman but in two PAC-12 games they’ve allowed just 49 points.

When it was announced that the conference was expanding and was going to split into two divisions with a championship game, people just assumed it be Southern California to win. USC picked up a win over No. 21 Colorado at the Coliseum to pull to 2-2 and get us closer to a logjam.

Arizona State, Utah and Colorado are all 2-1 after three weeks with Southern Cal and UCLA behind with two conference losses each. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out of the PAC-South with how close they are after these first few weeks.

Bottom dwellers aka teams looking for their first conference wins are 0-3 Arizona and Oregon who’ve both have struggled in different ways. Neither team can stop their opponents as the U of A has allowed 116 points (while scoring 75) and the Ducks have put up 92 but let opponents score 116.

There’s still a ways to go but Washington looks like a near lock to make it to Santa Clara in December, while would it surprise anyone if a south school with two losses rallied to over take that division? Buckle up and get ready because we’re only half way home and there’s still a lot of football to be played.
