Mark Helfrich is on the hot seat, but the fact that his team has shown heart and fight and not given up on the season is in his favor.

The Oregon Ducks season has not been one to remember. Coaching Decisions, Injuries and Defensive Chemistry have all played a role in the Ducks 4-7 record so far in 2016. What does that mean for Head Coach Mark Helfrich?
While many fans are calling for his Firing there may be some signs to the contrary.
The overall performance on Saturday against Utah showed that this team is willing to fight through bad referee calls for one. The Defense played the best game of the season holding Utah on third down seven times to help the Offense put together a big game winning drive.
Following the game, Wide Receiver Charles Nelson announced that he would be returning to the Ducks Offense in 2017. I doubt he knows anything more than we do when it comes to the Head Coach decision that looms in front of Athletic Director Rob Mullens. It could be a vote of confidence for the Head Coach.
Not giving up, a coach that can rally his team through bad calls, injuries and a nasty losing streak, and players like Tony Brooks-James speaking out for the Helfrich. Add to that and two game win streak if they beat Oregon State. The Ducks could land in a sub-par bowl game and finish the season at a more respectable 6-7. (Keep in mind there are more bowl games and not all team get to 6 wins – they have spots to fill.)
There is a week left before the decision is likely made, but the direction is pointing to him being retained in looking at all the factors of a rough 2016 for the Oregon Ducks.
