Dillon Brooks, Dylan Ennis Lead Oregon Ducks Past USC Trojans

Dillon Brooks started the game with a three-pointer and ended with 28 points in the Oregon Ducks win over USC.

The Oregon Ducks coming off the biggest game of the year would look to pick up the 35th straight win at Matthew Knight Arena facing another undefeated team – at least coming in, with the USC Trojans. USC came into the game winning 12 straight, Oregon saw their 10th straight win against UCLA on Wednesday night.

Dillon Brooks started the game where he left off on Wednesday hitting a three-pointer. Through the first five minutes he had 7 points. Oregon started the game hitting at 56 percent for a 13-6 lead on the USC Trojans. Oregon had 6 early points off 4 Trojans turnovers. Jonah Matthews hit the first 3-pointer for USC with just over 14 minutes left in the first half.

The Trojans pulled to within two, 13-11 and tied it off a Charles Bucks jump shot capping off a 9-0 run. Oregon went 0 for 5 on field goals over a three-minute span after a hot start. USC took their first lead of the game with just under 12 minutes left in the first half.

Tyler Dorsey would tie the game at 19 and take back some momentum. Chris Boucher was 0 for 2 but had a nasty block on the other end of the floor. USC found a scoring drought of their own going 0 for 9. Chris Boucher found a dunk to give the Oregon Ducks a 27-23 lead with 3:50 left in the first half. Oregon had 10 fast break points, and 12 in the paint.

Dillon Brooks hit a three-pointer and a dunk to give Oregon a 34-27 lead with just under two minutes remaining. At that point, the USC Trojans were 1 for 11 from the floor during a deep scoring drought. USC closed out the first half hitting just 2 of 13 field goals and be down 10 points entering the break.

Dillon Brooks had 20 points in the first half and was 6 for 7 from the floor. Tyler Dorsey had 7 points.

The big question is who would show up in the second half. The answer was apparent right away. Oregon took control with Dillon Brooks and Dylan Ennis. Just four minutes in Oregon extended their lead to 49-31 over USC with a 15-4 run. Ennis hit a three point shot that rolled around the top of the basket and fell in before the Trojans called a timeout.

USC started the second half the way they ended the first half – 1 for 9 from the field. Oregon on the other hand pulled away hitting 6 for 6 from the floor including two three-pointers from Dillon Brooks to push the lead to 59-32 with just under 13 minutes left in the game. Kavell Bigby-Williams came up with two big blocks on the same possession and played a role inside with his presence.

In the end it was a 84-61 win for the Oregon Ducks. They held USC to 31 percent shooting from the floor and have now beaten three undefeated teams this season, two back-to-back at Matthew Knight Arena. The victory marked the 35th straight win at home for the Ducks. The road now beckons for Oregon.
