Oregon Baseball: Ducks Open Four Game Series With Santa Clara

The Oregon Ducks host Santa Clara for a four games series starting Thursday at PK Park.

Oregon last saw Santa Clara when Baseball rebooted in 2009. The Broncos and Ducks have some similarities this season. The Ducks have Freshman that have contributed at key positions. Santa Clara has 15 newcomers this season, led by Catcher Jake MacNichols who will be one to watch for this weekend.

MacNichols started his collegiate career with a home run in his first game and hasn’t slowed down since. He started 10 of the 11 games this season and three of his six hits are home runs. He is slugging at .429. The Oregon Ducks have some power of their own.

Kyle Kasser played a key role over the weekend in helping Oregon to two wins over Mississippi State with a homerun and an extra base hit. On the mound David Peterson opened the home slate with a 17 strikeout performance. The Ducks Offense is batting at .250 for the season with opponents batting .425 against the pitching staff.

Santa Clara and Oregon are similar on Offense with the Broncos batting at .251 as a team. Defensively Santa Clara has a .360 Earned Run average as a team, led by Jacob Steffens. He is 1-1 with  0.77 ERA.

Staffens will start Thursday opposite Oregon Pitcher James Ocuna. First pitch is set for 6pm Pacific Time from PK Park.
