The Oregon Ducks lost their first home game of the season against the Washington Huskies on Thursday night.

Oregon Softball opened a three-game series with the Washington Huskies on Thursday. The game was slightly delayed from Thunderstorms over Jane Sanders Stadium. The Ducks came in following a weekend that saw the first losses of the season at UCLA. A series win against Washington would help keep the Oregon Ducks near the top of the standings.

Washington picked up a run in the first inning and held Oregon scoreless and hitless through the first three innings. Mia Camuso picked up the Ducks first hit an RBI of the game scoring Nikki Udria in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Ducks took the lead 2-1 and left the bases loaded to end the fourth inning.

The fifth inning was a big one for the road team. The Huskies Ali Aguilar belted a two-run home run midway up the center field seats to give Washington a 3-2 lead. Taran Alvelo kept the Oregon Ducks in check in the top bottom of the fifth inning giving up just one hit to Nikki Udria and striking out Jenna Lilley to end the inning and the scoring threat for Oregon.

The momentum never went the Oregon Ducks way for the rest of the game. Washington Pitchers were solid. In the top of the seventh Kelly Burdick laid down the perfect bunt for a single to start the inning. The Huskies loaded the bases as Miranda Elish struggled on the mound. Washington added a run to make it 4-2 with Oregon coming to bat in the bottom of the seventh.

In the end, Oregon dropped their third game of the year and third of their last four. Softball, like Baseball, can be a roller coaster, but one this team should bounce back from.
