Oregon Ducks Drop Series vs Stanford For Fifth Straight Loss
George Horton watched the Oregon Ducks(23-13, 6-9 Pac-12) bats go cold amidst a five-game losing streak and being swept at home by the Stanford Cardinal(23-12, 8-7 Pac-12) over the weekend.
The Oregon Ducks looked to salvage one game of the three-game series against Stanford. The Ducks were also looking to snap a four-game losing streak after winning last Friday against Arizona on the road. David Peterson and Matt Mercer took the early losses in the series. Isaiah Carranza would look to get off to good start on Sunday.
Carranza did not have the best first inning that included a run on a wild pitch and also saw a 15-minute rain delay. When play resumed he gave up two more runs as Stanford jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Oregon came to bat.
Matthew Dyer put Oregon on the board with an RBI double and two men on scoring Kyle Kassar with two outs. Tim Susnara had a chance to help add to the lead. He lined out to the pitcher, but the Ducks got on the board in the first inning.
Stanford added a run in the top of the third. Isaiah Carranza lasted 1 2/3 innings as Cole Stringer took over to close out the top of the second and limit the damage.

The Cardinal added another run in the top of the fifth. Oregon was able to get two runners on base the next two innings, but Stanford pitching was able to keep the comeback at bay for three straight innings until the Ducks plated a run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-2. Spencer Steer hit a dribbler down the right field line for an infield hit to extend the inning for Gabe Matthews.
Mathews hit a blooper to right field scoring another run pulling Oregon to within two. Matthew Dyer would fly out to end the inning but not before Oregon added two runs, with two outs.
Stanford added runs in each of the next three innings to extend their lead to 9-4. The Oregon Ducks had four pitchers give up 16 total hits to the Cardinal through nine innings. It was an impressive Offensive showing by the Cardinal, who came into the game struggling.
The Oregon Ducks have lost five straight games and enter a stretch where they will need wins to keep pace. Oregon faces Oregon State in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday.(5:30pm PT, Pac-12 Network)
