The 2017 season came to a close last weekend and the University of Oregon is looking into extending Head Coach George Horton again.

On Wednesday, the Register-Guard reported the University of Oregon had reached out and offered a multi-year extension to George Horton. The last few seasons have not lived up to expectation for what Horton believes that Oregon Baseball should be and it appears the Ducks are considering keeping him at the helm.

The new contract is not as large as the one that will expire in September. Horton made just over a half a million dollars this past season. The team went 30-25 and missed the postseason and a shot at the College World Series. While the new terms were not disclosed, is would keep George Horton in Eugene through the 2019 season.

The Oregon Ducks started the 2017 season on a high note led by David Peterson on the mound, and Kyle Kassar in the Leadoff spot. Early on, the team found their way into the National Rankings at 22 before things started to fall apart. Oregon had a big problem on Offense. Their inability to score runs took away any chance for the Postseason. Losing key series against Stanford and Oregon State at home only hurt their RPI down the stretch.

George Horton had several career milestones this past season including hitting the 800 win mark and the 300 win mark with the Oregon Ducks in 2017.

Oregon came off solid seasons when Horton was hired, but have fallen short in both the Pac-12 with a losing record and also missed the postseason the last two years. If Horton returns it would be his tenth season with the Oregon Ducks.
