Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman and the Ducks secured one of their top-rated recruits in program history when five-star small forward prospect Louis King announced his commitment decision on Thursday.

When King announced that he would be committing today, experts in the college basketball community felt that he was a heavy Ducks lean. The five-star prospect, who hails all the way from New Jersey, had recently visited Eugene. It turned out to be his only official visit.

After an in-home meeting with Altman, King announced that he would be making his decision today, where he chose the Ducks.

“Out of all of my schools I felt like it was best for me and my family,” he said in an interview with MADE Hoops. “Coach Altman said that I would have the ball in my hands throughout the season.”

So what does this mean for Oregon basketball?

King immediately becomes one of the most prized commitments in Oregon basketball history, and can be an immediate impact player in 2018. He is the fifth-best small forward in the country, and with a 7-foot wingspan, he can contribute in a multitude of ways..

With King and four-star power forward Miles Norris already committed, the Ducks have 2-3 more open spots left in the class. Altman and his staff can now focus on reeling in some more big fish for 2018.

The most prized catch would be the nation’s top-ranked player RJ Barrett, who will be in Eugene this weekend.

Barrett, a native Canadian, has already visited Duke, Kentucky, and Arizona, but the Canada-Oregon pipeline may be intriguing to the small forward.

King’s commitment also opens the doors to prospects like four-star Luguentz Dort. The four-star shooting guard has been considered a Duck lean, and visited the same weekend as King.

The Ducks are also a major player for five-star power forward Emmitt Williams. The commitment of King could signal to other top players like Williams and others that Eugene is the place to be.

With King now in the fold, Oregon currently has the 16th-best recruiting class in the nation. With 2-3 more spots to fill, they could end up as one of the best.

Coming off a historic Final Four run last season, the Ducks lost a lot of talent to the NBA.

However, with impressive recruiting efforts, Altman and the Ducks don’t appear to be going anywhere. They only seem to be getting better.
