Oregon Football relied on their run game and the one-dimensional effort led to a 49-7 loss vs Stanford.

The Oregon Ducks hit the road for the first of two games. For the Ducks to get back into the mix for the Pac-12 North, a win at Stanford was necessary. Over the years Oregon and Stanford have played each other hard. Willie Taggart had some history with his team winning five of the last eleven games on the Farm. The big question was who would start at Quarterback and the answer was Braxton Burmeister, getting his second straight start.

Stanford won the coin toss and started with the ball. Bryce Love picked up 38 yards on his first carry of the game and five plays later took the ball into the endzone. Quarterback Keller Chryst threw a perfect pass to Wide Receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside on the drive to take a 7-0 lead.

Braxton Burmeister nearly saw himself out of the Ducks’ first third down of the night, but a holding penalty made it a short series and forced a punt. Wide Receiver Johnny Johnson committed the hold, but both Charles Nelson and Dillon Mitchell were on the field in the first series.

Bryce Love put the Cardinal up 14-0 in one play on the next drive running for the score and putting up 115 yards in two series against Oregon Football. With five carries in less than four minutes Love is averaging 23 yards per play.

Tony Brooks-James got the ball past midfield, but a holding call backed the Ducks up ten yards to start their second drive of the game. Royce Freeman ran for 59 yards showing solid speed and getting Oregon down field. Freeman continued the drive down to the goal line and Braxton Burmeister scored the first touchdown of his career to cut the lead to 14-7.

Stanford used a mix of run and pass plays on their next drive and worked their way into the red zone. The Ducks Defense held until third down and Arcega-Whiteside caught a fade pass in the corner of the endzone to push the lead back to 14 points. It was the first time this season that the Oregon Defense gave up 21 points in a quarter this season.

Braxton Burmeister threw his next pass long for Tony Brooks-James. The ball was intercepted by Stanford and the honus was back on the Oregon Defense, much like it was last week against Washington State. The Cardinal again were able to move the ball through the air racking up over 220 yards of total Offense before the end of the 1st Quarter.

Stanford used three different Quarterbacks in the first quarter. The Ducks Defense got a big stop and got the ball back on fourth down to start the second quarter. Burmeister was back under center and worked to get the Ducks to a third and short at the 27 yard line. Royce Freeman converted for a first down after a quick dump off from the Freshman Quarterback.

On the next play, Burmeister thew his second interception of the game, but the Oregon Defense was able to contain Stanford and force a Cardinal punt.

Oregon did some good things and bad things on the next drive. A run play and fake by Burmeister worked to perfection, but was negated by a penalty. Two other penalties killed the drive and forced Oregon to punt. The misery continued for the Ducks as the punt was blocked and returned for a touchdown by Stanford to make it 28-7.

Deommodor Lenoir had a touchdown saving interception in the endzone before the first half ended and the Ducks went into the break down 28-7.

Oregon opened the second half without a pass play and went with another three and out. Stanford opened the second half, lost their Starting Running Back to an injury and came away with 7 points and another touchdown by Arcega-Whiteside.

The Ducks looked for an Offensive spark with Taylor Alie at Quarterback who threw two incomplete passes in his first series leading to another Oregon punt.

Stanford would add to their lead midway through the third quarter with another fade pass from Keller Chryst to Colby Parkinson for a 42-7 lead.

The Cardinal added other touchdown In the end for the Ducks it was fruitless. They were beaten by the better team. In games like this, it is the experience to learn from by the now 13 Freshman that Oregon has played in games this season.
