Preseason WNIT: Sabrina Ionescu Scores Triple Double In Oregon Ducks Win

Sabrina Ionescu had a special afternoon for the Oregon Ducks, picking up a triple-double and assisting several teammates to double-double performances vs Drake.

The Oregon Women’s Basketball team(2-0, 0-0 Pac-12) took to the court in the second round of the Women’s WNIT against the Drake(1-1, 0-0 Missouri Valley).

After picking up where they left off in the NCAA Tournament last season, Sabrina Ionescu led the charge against CSUN in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT. Head Coach Kelly Graves has brought in more weapons into the Ducks fold and Satou Sabally will be one to watch all season. The Freshman was off to a good 10 point start vs CSUN.

Drake came to Matthew Knight Arena after winning their Preseason WNIT opener vs Milwaukee.

The Oregon Ducks started the game uncharacteristically with the opening tip going out of bounds followed by a steal by Drake. Both did not result in any points. Lexi Bando opened the scoring with a three-pointer followed by Sabrina Ionescu with a layup giving Oregon a 5-0 lead. Drake hit a 3-pointer to make it 5-3 with just over 8 minutes left in the first quarter.

Drake committed five straight turnovers and Oregon added to their lead to make it 27-17 with just under a minute left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs found ways to stick around midway through the second quarter. Drake had a 14-10 lead in points in the paint. Oregon was starting to pull away as halftime approached with a 44-31 lead and just over 3 minutes left in the first half.

The Ducks took an 11 point lead into the locker room.

Oregon opened the second half with back to back three-pointers from Lexi Bando and pushed to a 7-0 start to the second half. The Ducks pushed their lead to 20 points over the Bulldogs. The Ducks maintained their lead keeping Drake from the basket on six straight attempts before Nicole Miller hit a lay-up. Satou Sabally came on strong in the third quarter to push her totals to 12 points on 5 for 8 shooting.

The Ducks took an 82-59 lead into the 4th Quarter.

Oregon continued to pull away in the final quarter. The story of the game was the play of Sabrina Ionescu who put up a triple-double vs Drake. Oregon also hit the 100 point mark for the first time this season. Ionescu is one triple-double away from the Pac-12 mark and the NCAA mark of 7 is within reach. She is just a Sophomore.

The Oregon Ducks next game will be Thursday and away from Matthew Knight Arena.The team travels to College Station to take on Texas A&M at 5pm PT.
