Oregon Ducks Move Into 4th Place In Pac-12 With Win Over Washington State

Oregon pulled away in the second half for an 84-57 win over Washington State.

The Oregon Ducks are still working on their identity and Sunday night could be a big step for who this team will be heading toward March. The Washington Huskies have an identity that they may not like. They are the best three-point shooting team in the Pac-12 but are toward the bottom of the National Average when it comes to free throws.

Oregon opened the game with possession but no points. Washington State hit three-pointers on back to back possessions to take an early 6-3 lead. Elijah Brown and MiKyle McIntosh teamed up on back to back shots to give Oregon an 8-6 lead at the 15-minute mark of the first half.

Washington State hit a 1 for 9 streak as Oregon extended their lead to 16-8 at the 11:32 mark with the Cougars taking a timeout. Oregon hit a 13- run over the same span taking close to 5 minutes off the clock.

The Cougars hit three-point shots on their next three of four possessions, but Oregon kept pace with shots of their own to maintain a 21-16 lead. The first Oregon foul of the game was made by MiKyle McIntosh with 9:21 remaining in the first half.

Oregon worked to extend their lead, but Washington State would not go away in the first half. Kenny Wooten had a key block with just over a minute left in the first half and Oregon turned it into a quick five points to take a 38-28 lead. The Ducks took a ten point lead into the locker room.

The Ducks finished the first half hitting 7 of 9 shots and 52 percent from the floor. Oregon also had 15 fast break points and 11 assists and were outrebounding Washington State by 7.

Washington State closed the gap to start the second half. MiKyle McIntosh made 3 of 4 free throws to hold onto a 44-37 lead. Kenny Wooten would add two fast break points off a pass from Elijah Brown to push the lead to 9 points with 15:49 left in the second half.

Victor Bailey Jr was fouled on a three-point basket pushing the Oregon lead back to 11 points and the momentum back to the Ducks. He completed the four-point play.

The Cougars hit a scoring drought and had four turnovers in four minutes with Troy Brown getting in the middle of one for a basket and free throw on the other end extending the Ducks lead to 63-48 with 7 minutes remaining.

The Oregon Ducks finished the game on a 14-0 run and an 84-57 win over Washington State. Oregon moves up to 4th Place in the Pac-12 Conference facing teams ahead of them later this week in USC and UCLA, both on the road.
