Oregon Ducks Softball broke the game open in the fourth inning and went on to defeat Weber State 9-1 on their home opener Friday night.

The Oregon Ducks had their game Thursday night rained out and canceled. Oregon picked up on Friday night facing Weber State in back to back games as part of the Oregon Invitational. The Ducks return home after starting the season on the road with a 28-4 record.

Head Coach Mike White spoke earlier in the week about still working with the lineup. On Friday the Starting Lineup looked different. Jenna Lilley was in the Leadoff Spot for the usual Alexis Mack. Catcher Gwen Svekis was in as Designated Player and Mary Iakopo was in at Catcher.

Jenna Lilley worked a 3-2 count and hit a bullet past second base for a hit. After two outs, Gwen Svekis worked a walk bringing up Mary Iakopo. Weber State worked their way out of the inning with Iakopo flying out to right ending the first inning.

Weber State got to work picking up three hits and a run off of Maggie Balint. Catcher Mary Iakopo tried to pick off the runner at second throwing the ball into center field putting runners on second and third. The Wildcats took the lead on the next at-bat 1-0.

Shannon Rhodes started the bottom of the inning reaching on a fielding error. DJ Sanders would walk and Lauren Lindvall laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt moving runners to second and third, but the Ducks were unable to score in the second inning.

Mia Camuso opened the bottom of the third inning with a hit. Again, Weber State got out of the inning without giving up a run.

The same could bot be said about the next inning. The fourth inning saw two Oregon batters get on with one out before Haley Cruse hit a single to tie the game at 1. Jenna Lilley followed with a 2 RBI single giving the Ducks a 3-1 lead. Mary Iakopo hit a grand slam giving the Ducks a 7-1 lead. It was the first home run for the Freshman. Oregon has six hits in the inning.

In the end, it was a run-rule win 9-1 win for the Oregon Ducks. Oregon is back at it again on Saturday in the Oregon Invitational against Weber State at 5 pm and Montana at 7:30 pm Pacific Time.
