The Oregon Ducks Offense came to a halt against Washington Starter Gabbie Plain in a 6-2 loss at the Women’s College World Series on Friday.

After scoring the most runs in a Women’s College World Series game on Thursday, the Oregon Ducks were not able to put any runs on the board early against the Washington Huskies Defense. Oregon now finds themselves in a familiar position facing three must-win games to get to the Championship round starting Saturday night.

Oregon Head Coach Mike White stressed the importance of winning the first two games to earn that important off day, which now belongs to Washington. Huskies Starter Gabbie Plain threw six innings giving up four hits and a run, most in the 7th inning. Oregon was able to put two runs on the board and had a rally going with players on base with two ours, but an interference call ended the game giving Washington the 6-2 win and sending the Ducks to the others side of the bracket.

The Oregon Ducks have been in this spot before. In the Super Regional Round, they lost the first game to Kentucky and won the final two to get to Omaha. Last season at the WCWS, Oregon lost to Washington before falling to Oklahoma.

After hitting over .400 on Thursday, Oregon was held to batting just .222 and .159 with runners in scoring position against Washington. The Ducks finally broke through in the 7th, but it was too late.

Oregon will face the winner of Georgia and Florida State on Saturday. The Ducks have faced Florida State this season which is an advantage. The Seminoles have had several comeback wins late in games including one to win their Conference Title.

The Ducks also faced Georgia winning 8-3 to open the season at the Kajikawa Classic.

I expect Head Coach Mike White will turn to Miranda Elish to get try and get the team to Sunday and a second elimination game, likely against UCLA.

The UCLA Bruins and Washington Huskies are the only two teams that remain undefeated entering play on Saturday. Oregon faces the winner of Georgia/Florida State at 6:30 pm Pacific Time on ESPN.
