For Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans Season Opens With Loss vs Miami Dolphins
The Tennessee Titans lost 27-20 against the Miami Dolphins, and the repercussions may be just beginning.
Sunday was not a good day for Marcus Mariota and the Tennesee Titans Offense. The team struggled to find their footing and the weather did anything but cooperate making what should have been a three and a half hour affair more of a seven-hour battle.
The Tennesee Offense also saw some injuries along the way, including one to Mariota. He was hit on his shoulder and elbow and reportedly lost the feeling in his hand for a few minutes. He was able to return and will be re-evaluated on Monday. The biggest loss was Tight End Delanie Walker who went up for a catch and got tripped up and came down on a right leg that crumbled beneath him. He left the field in an air cast.

Mariota finished the game 9 for 16 with two interceptions, thrown after the injury before he left the game. Blaine Gabbert came in to keep the Titans in the game finishing 11 for 22 for 117 yards. In the end, Tennessee lost a game they should have won, 27-20. It was not the debut that Head Coach Mike Vrabel envisioned. The two lightning delays made the game the longest game since the 1970 NFL/AFL Merger.
The road for the Tennessee Titans does not get easier. Next week the Titans welcome the Texans to Nissan Stadium and a game with the World Champion Philadelphia Eagles is also just a few weeks away.
The Titans Running Game found balance with Dion Lewis leading the way with 75 yards and a touchdown. Corey Davis led the Wide Receiver corps with 6 catches for 62 yards. Tennessee Quarterbacks found eight Wide Receivers, including passes caught by Lewis and Derrick Henry. Despite the balance, it was the turnovers that were costly.
Tennessee heads home to welcome the Houston Texans, Sunday at 10 am Pacific Time.
