San Jose State has not won a game yet this season and brings the 109th ranked scoring Offense vs Oregon Football to Autzen Stadium on Saturday.

The Spartans Defense is a step worse ranking 110th. While the statistics entering the matchup do not favor San Jose State, the team comes in with talent on Offense with an NFL Caliper Tight End and speed at the Wide Receiver position. The teams have not met since 1998, but 20 years ago the Spartans had a familiar face, now at Oregon, at Quarterback.

Offensive Coordinator Marcus Arroyo was the Signal caller that day against the Oregon Ducks. It did not go well back then for Arroyo. It was a 58-3 loss where he went 9 for 16 through the air with an interception. This time around, Arroyo is leading the Oregon Offense from above the field. After watching the team last week against Portland State, the Ducks opened the playbook somewhat and showed their talent at Wide Reciever in the second half.

When it comes to San Jose State, Oregon Football is looking at another non-conference opponent with talent in areas. It will be the second straight week the Defense will be tested by another quality Tight End in Derrick Deese Jr. The Junior College Transfer signed in the offseason and should be one to watch on Saturday.

Oregon Football continues to prepare each week with a familiar drill according to Mario Cristobal, “We’ve actually upped the amount of reps on what we do ‘good on good’ in order to make sure our technique and fundamentals don’t deteriorate during the season.” While many are looking ahead to next week’s Pac-12 matchup against the Stanford Cardinal, the Ducks are focused on this weekend’s task – working to get better.

Cristobal is working to keep his team in ‘this week’, “(We’re) keeping our guys completely focused on our opponent. Understanding the scheme that we’re facing(in San Jose State) is different than what we have seen certainly defensively. They do so much stuff to try and confuse you that you have to be on point on both the passing game and run game.”

Autzen Zoo will have Live Coverage starting at 1 pm Pacific Time. Oregon Football faces San Jose State on Saturday at 2 pm Pacific Time. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.
