Oregon Football(2-0) hosts the San Jose State Spartans(0-2) and the Ducks are putting up big numbers on Offense averaging 60 points per game this season.

Despite being what appears to be outmatched on paper, San Jose has talent at key positions. This will be a game where Oregon should exert their will early and be able to get experience for the future, similar to what we saw last weekend against Portland State. San Jose State has struggled in their first two games, entering the game with the 110th ranked scoring Offense in College Football.

San Jose is getting their second taste of the Pac-12 Conference this week. They lost to Washington State last weekend 31-0. On the season Quarterback, Montel Aaron is hitting 59 percent of his passes for the Spartans. Bailey Gaither and Josh Oliver are their top threats outside pulling in 277 yards of Offense and two touchdowns between them. Unlike last weekend against Portland State, Punt Returner Thai Cottrell could be a threat to run. He has used the field for just 9 yards on the season in return coverage.

Defensively, San Jose State is led by Tre Webb and Jamal Scott. Both have 38 tackles between them in the first two games of the season. The team has just two sacks on opposing Quarterbacks this season.

While it appears that Oregon Football should control the tempo and the game, I expect that San Jose State will look to challenge Oregon in every facet of the game. I also expect that Oregon to have the opportunity to extend their experience, especially in the second half. Last weekend Freshman Quarterback Tyler Shough saw limited action in the final few moments of the game. Several other new faces should see the field today against San Jose State.

Starter Justin Herbert has been solid in his first two games throwing the ball for touchdowns to nine different Ducks. Jaylon Redd has been the standout player at Wide Receiver this season. The Freshman has 117 yards of Offense and three touchdowns on the season so far. The Oregon Run Game has seen CJ Verdell and Tony Brooks-James lead on the ground. Both had 100 yard games last weekend against Portland State.

Fun Fact: the last time Oregon and San Jose State met, 20 years ago their Quarterback was Marcus Arroyo, the Oregon Ducks Current Offensive Coordinator. That day was not good for him. By design he played in the 1st and 3rd Quarters went 9 for 14 and threw an ugly interception.

Oregon Football and San Jose State kickoff at 2 pm Pacific Time on Pac-12 Network from Autzen Stadium.
