Oregon Basketball: Ducks Win Despite Turnovers vs Green Bay

The Oregon Ducks were sloppy on Offense with 13 turnovers but won the rebounding battle vs Green Bay.

Oregon Basketball returned home to face Green Bay in the 2K Empire Classic after splitting games with Iowa and Syracuse at Madison Square Garden last week. Green Bay is a team that can put up points with JaQuan McCloud averaging 22 points per game this season.

The Ducks won the opening tip and Bol Bol had the first points for Oregon. The Ducks hit 56 percent from the floor in the opening minutes, limiting Green Bay, but the Phoenix were 2 of 4 from three-point range early. Oregon held a 13-8 lead at the 14-minute mark of the first half.

Oregon went on a three-minute scoring drought with 3 turnovers, but the damage was limited on the other end by solid Defense. Oregon ed 21-13 with 9:02 left in the first half. Cameron Hankerson hit back to back shots for Green Bay to pull within four points forcing Dana Altman to call a timeout. While the energy was better for Oregon, the ball movement was poor in the first half forcing some turnovers.

Bol Bol paced Oregon early hitting 6 of 7 from the floor and a three-pointer that was three feet past the line. Oregon led in points in the paint in the first half 20-12, but Green Bay had the lead in bench points going into the locker room.

Oregon continued cold shooting to open the second half as Green Bay went on a 6-0 run to pull within 4 points 39-35. Payton Pritchard heated up. Altman said in his weekly Press Conference there would be an effort to get Pritchard the ball. He responded with back to back three-pointers. Paul White took an assist from Pritchard as Oregon again pulled away with a 51-37 lead with just over 13 minutes left in the second half.

The Ducks were held scoreless from the field in the last four minutes of the game but made up for it making free throws to pull away in the end for the win 83-72. Bol Bol led all scorers with 21 points. Payton Pritchard finished with 18, hitting 3 of 6 from beyond the arc with five assists.

While the game lacked consistency, Oregon did what they needed to get the job done against Green Bay. The Oregon Ducks return to the court on Monday to face Texas Southern at Matthew Knight Arena. Tipoff is set for 8 pm Pacific Time on Pac-12 Network.
