Oregon Basketball: Ducks Look To Find Momentum, Host Texas Southern

Oregon Basketball Head Coach Dana Altman was not pleased with the effort last week by his team, but with a week off between games work in practice should payoff Monday night.

Despite a defensive effort not allowing the opposition to score better than 40 percent from the floor, Defense will be key against Texas Southern on Monday night. Last season, the Tigers came within six points of the upset(74-68) and some players are in a similar roll this season for the road team.

Texas Southern will face their second ranked opponent in Oregon. The team lost to #3 Gonzaga. Jalyn Patterson had done his best to keep the Tigers in games. He is averaging 15 points per game this season, He scored 26 last week against Evanston in a loss. Patterson is hitting 30 percent from the floor and 33 percent from beyond the arc.

Trayvon Reed is the top rebounder for the Tigers, averaging 11 rebounds per game, along with12 points. Reed his hitting 50 percent from three-point range. Reed and Patterson also lead the team in turnovers with 17 and 15 respectively. As a team, Texas Southern turns the ball over 15 times per game.

The Oregon Ducks have had some bright moments this season, but have also struggled with energy early in games. Against Iowa, the team came out flat ultimately losing the game but showed better at home against Green Bay. Bol Bol has been key early for the Oregon Ducks this season. His size alone along with his athleticism have been impressive on the court allowing several double double finishes for the big man.

Injuries that could have taken an early toll have led to players gaining early experience. Payton Pritchard started the season with bruised ribs and has worked his way back to full strength. Will Richardson has seen floor time after working back from a foot injury. He saw the most minutes against Syracuse with 26.

The Oregon Ducks and Texas Southern Tigers meet Monday at 8 pm from Matthew Knight Arena. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.
