Following the win in the Red Box Bowl, several Oregon Football players have yet to make a decision on their futures, Dillon Mitchell did so on Wednesday.

Mitchell announced that he will forgo his Senior season with Oregon Football and make preparations for the NFL Draft in 2019. In the bowl game, Mitchell became the all-time leading receiver in Oregon History, despite playing the game injured. He caught the game-winning touchdown despite a stingy Michigan State Defense that kept Oregon out of the field position game for most of the contest. The Oregon scoring drive started from their own 23-yard line.

Dillon Mitchell was asked after the game about his intent, then he said he would talk things over with his family. With Quarterback Justin Herbert returning, along with the entire Oregon Offensive Line, I would have hoped that team chemistry and having what could have been a more healthy season for Mitchell may have compelled him to remain a Duck for the 2019 season, but I understand the NFL Dream.

With his departure, the move certainly opens things up in now a key position for Oregon Football. Several Wide Receivers will return for 2019 including Jaylon Redd, who made most of the noise during the non-conference slate in 2018. Brendan Schooler will also be back next season and healthy. Oregon will also have an influx of new talent. I expect several Freshman will get a chance to start beginning with the very first game.

Entering the offseason, Wide Receiver will be ‘the’ position to watch on Offense for the upcoming season. The Ducks are fortunate that the Offense won’t have to be reworked for next year with so many players returning in key positions.  With Justin Herbert, Oregon Football may have enough to make a run at both the Pac-12 Title and the National Championship next season.

Oregon Football finished the 2018 season with an 8-4 record winning three straight games entering the 2019 season.
