Oregon Basketball: Ducks Show Grit, Fall In Overtime To UCLA Bruins

The Oregon Ducks battled to a lead late in the first half, but UCLA finished off the comeback in overtime to take the win.

Oregon Basketball had a new lineup on Thursday night featuring more from Paul White and Victor Bailey Jr. Both played key roles in keeping Oregon in the game in the first half vs the UCLA Bruins. Louis King led the team in scoring early with seven points. White had six. It was back and forth for much of the first half. The Ducks at times had three Freshman on the floor and found some positive momentum with King leading the way.

The Ducks tied the game at 25 off a steal from White and a shot that went in on a foul with just over five minutes left in the first half. Victor Bailey Jr. pushed Oregon to a 29-26 lead with just over three minutes left in the first half and it was clear that this Oregon team was ready to fight.

Midway through the first half Oregon hit on an 11-1 run forcing four UCLA Turnovers. The Bruins finished the half 3 for 15 from the floor. The Ducks hit back to back three-pointers to take a 35-26 lead. Victor Bailey Jr. added a basket forcing a Bruins timeout as the Ducks exploded for eight points in the period of about a minute with just over two left in the first half. Oregon finished the first half on a 14-5 run and a ten point lead over UCLA 39-32.

To close the first half, Oregon turned 15 UCLA Turnovers into 19 points on the scoreboard.

Oregon had a lead in the final minutes, but UCLA battled back to tie the game with a dunk off missed free throw with two seconds left. The game was tied was tied at 80 and headed to overtime. Despite 32 points off turnovers, the Bruins outrebounded the Ducks 46 to 35 making up a big difference as regulation came to an end.

UCLA went on a 6-0 run in Overtime. Oregon was 0 for 6. The Bruins went on to win the game 84-82 to take victory from the Oregon Ducks. It was the Bruins first win in Eugene since 2014. Despite the loss several Ducks scored in double figures. Louis King finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, Victor Bailey Jr. had 16, Paul White finished with 10.

Oregon Basketball will be back at it on Sunday against the USC Trojans. Tipoff is set for 5 pm Pacific Time on ESPNU.
