Oregon Football: Ugo Amadi Honored With Lombardi Award
Former Oregon Duck Defensive Star Ugockukwu Amadi won the Lombardi Award on Friday night.
The Lombardi Award honors the top college football player that cites “leadership qualities honed by character and resiliency.” Over the last four seasons for Oregon Football, Amadi played in 51 games and was one of the most experienced players on the team. He started his Oregon career at Cornerback before moving to Safety over the last two seasons.
For the 2018 season, Amadi was also a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the top Defensive Back. Others that were included in the final list for the Lombardi Award included Oklahoma Quarterback Kyler Murray.

Amadi found ways to adjust with numerous coaching changes over the last three seasons starting with Mark Helfrich then Willie Taggart and last season with Mario Cristobal. The Oregon Defensive Coordinator the last two seasons was consistent with Jim Leavitt heading up the Defense. Amadi should find himself in the mix for the 2019 NFL Draft.
Amadi has experience at multiple positions in the field and by adding some muscle could find a place on Defense for a team in need. The Oregon Ducks will be looking to replace a very active player on Defense and a returner on Special teams the last two seasons for 2019. In his senior season he finished the year with 55 tackles, 5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks.
Nick Pickett is the likely name to replace Amadi at Safety. Pickett has experience at the position and was backup for most of the season. He enters the 2019 season fully healthy and had a good start in 2018 before injury hampered the rest of the year a bit.
Oregon Football returns to Autzen Stadium with the Spring Game on Saturday, April 20th. Kickoff is set for 2 pm Pacific Time. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.
