Oregon Football: Ducks Add Transfer Wide Receiver Juwan Johnson

Oregon Football has added some experience at a key position with Wide Receiver Juwan Johnson.

One big area of need for the upcoming season was Wide Receiver. While Oregon has potential players that have some experience, they needed an ‘it’ guy similar to Dillon Mitchell from last season. They may have found their guy in Transfer Juwan Johnson.

Juwan Johnson comes from the Big Ten and Penn State. He is big and his size will work well in the Pac-12. He was the 32nd Nittany Lion to amass 1000 yards through the air. He has also caught at least one ball in 20 of his 22 career games including a spectacular catch against Michigan last season.

57 of his 81 receptions over his last three seasons were for first downs making him a likely key target for Quarterback Justin Herbert in 2019. He joined the Ducks this week and saw his first practice Thursday with the team. I expect he may even see the field in the Oregon Spring Game just a few weeks away as he continues to learn a new system and a new playbook as continues to build chemistry with his new team.

He also has big game and postseason experience. Johnson was the one that pulled in a touchdown as time expired when Penn State played at Iowa last season. He also helped the Nittany Lions to an 11-2 finish and a Fiesta Bowl win to close out the season.

Juwan Johnson will take the familiar number to Oregon fans. He will join another Johnson in Johnny Johnson III along with Brendan Schooler and Jaylon Redd leading the Upper Classmen on the Ducks roster entering the Spring Game.

Johnson graduated in December from Penn State and was not expected to join the Oregon Ducks until this summer. He has one season of eligibility remaining and will look to make the most of it in Eugene.

The Oregon Football Spring Game is set for Saturday, April 20th. Kickoff is set for 2 pm from Autzen Stadium.
