On Tuesday Oregon Football added another key Defensive piece to the 2019 Recruiting Class.

Six months ago Chris Steele was considered a missed target for Oregon Football. He signed then with the Florida Gators. Last week he entered the Transfer Portal and yesterday announced he was becoming an Oregon Duck. Of course, it is not yet known if he will be fully eligible for the 2019 season, that will be left to the NCAA.

Steele spent the Spring working out with the Gators. He is still recovering from an ACL Injury. He primarily worked out from the Cornerback position. With the Transfer Portal, other teams are given the all clear by the school the athlete is with for contact. Oregon simply reached out.

Following the end of the recruiting cycle, the Ducks already had the top class in the Pac-12 and with the addition of another 5-Star player on Defense, it will help solidify Oregon hopefully as a contender in the future for similar talent. The Coaching Staff, led by Mario Cristobal has been up front and honest with recruits and the Ducks have reaped the benefits of 4-Star ad 5-Star Athletes making Autzen Stadium their home.

oregon Football is entering another year of transition on Defense. Andy Avalos takes over for Jim Leavitt, who spent two seasons with the Ducks.  Leavitt helped improve the Oregon Defense in his time here from a team that gave up over 28 points per game before his arrival. In his second season, the goal was 24 points per game and playmakers like Ugo Amadi, Jalen Jelks, and Troy Dye found the right positions on the field to stay close to that goal.

With Amadi graduation, a key spot in the secondary could very well be patrolled by a Freshman entering 2019 and the first test will be a big one against Auburn on August 31st.
