It has been quite a few years since Colt Lyerla saw the football field in 2013 after abruptly leaving Oregon Football and signing with the Green Bay Packers, he was later released. There has not been much football recently for Lyerla, but the latest incident started on Monday with an argument with his girlfriend that led to a fight and police being called.
The incident happened around 11:15 am on Monday. Lyerla left the scene before police arrived. Springfield Police caught up with Lyerla on Tuesday. He ran as officers tried to arrest him. Lyerla has had several incidents running from the law.
In 2013 he was arrested for heroin possession and escaped through a first-floor window of a Minimum Security facility where he was placed to serve part of his sentence. He was found the next day at home overdosing on heroin at the time.
He was subsequently arrested two more times, in October for cocaine possession and in December after stealing about $120 worth of items from a store. He was chased by Sheriff’s Deputies who found heroin in his sock.
Colt Lyerla is now living back in Eugene and the hope was for him to get clean, but the latest incident earlier this week once again put in the spotlight a player that at one time appeared t have so much potential, but addition and drugs keep winning the battle.
On Tuesday he was arrested and charged on accusations of second-degree assault, menacing, coercion, and unlawful possession of heroin.
