Oregon Football: Ducks Dominate In Win Over Nevada, 77-6

Oregon Football was dominant as the Offense saw 11 different Ducks score and Oregon Defense held Nevada to just three third-down conversions in a 77-6 win.

Oregon has won 14 straight home openers and looked to make it 15 as they hosted Nevada on Saturday night at Autzen Stadium. It was near perfect football weather with cloud cover and near 65 degrees at the start.

The Ducks won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. Oregon saw an early three and out as Justin Herbert missed two passes to Jacob Breeland on the drive Punter Jake Maimot hit a 25-yard punt that rolled out of bounds at the Nevada 4-yard line where the Wolfpack would start their first drive.

Nevada was forced into a three and out. On the next Oregon drive, Herbert had Johnny Johnson wide open on first down and missed him. On second down, a false start penalty, but on third down, a 19-yard run helped with a first down. The Ducks would have a second penalty on the drive. Herbert started the game 3 for 8 as Oregon turned over the ball to Nevada after missing on fourth down.

The Wolfpack would punt again, but the ball hit an Oregon player and was recovered by the Wolfpack at the Oregon 12 yard line. It was not a good start for the Oregon Offense and the Special Teams unit for the Ducks. Oregon would be hit with a penalty for hitting the quarterback out of bounds giving Nevada a first and goal from the five-yard line.

The Oregon Defense held as Nevada settled for a field goal and a 3-0 lead.

Oregon converted a fourth and one on their next drive. The next play was a 66-yard touchdown pass from Herbert to Tight End Jacob Breeland as Oregon took a 7-3 lead with just under four minutes left in the first quarter.

The Oregon Football Offense would wake up as Justin Herbert threw two long passes followed by a 2-yard run by CJ Verdell to add to their lead 14-6.

Oregon would add another score off a Samson Niu interception and would need just two plays to add a touchdown. Justin Herbert connected with Ryan Bay for 16 yards putting the Ducks up 21-6 on Nevada. The Ducks would add two more scores before halftime. Brady Aiello added a touchdown from Herbert to make it 28-6. Bryan Addison added the second to make it 35-6 heading into halftime.

Justin Herbert finished the first half 13 for 19 throwing for 236 yards and 4 touchdowns after a rough start in the first quarter.

Oregon added Herbert’s fifth touchdown pass of the day to Daewood Davis with just over 10 minutes left in the third quarter as the Ducks were rolling against Nevada, 42-6.

Cyrus Habibi-Likio got into the action scampering in from five yards out to add to the Ducks total making it 49-6. Justin Herbert was done for the day as Tyler Shough entered the game for Oregon on the next Ducks possession.

From there it was all Oregon as the Ducks added a total of four scores in the third quarter, including one from Brady Breeze on a forced fumble. At the end of the third quarter, it was 63-6 with 15 minutes left to play.

In the end, Oregon added two more touchdowns as 11 different players saw the endzone in a 77-6 win over Nevada. Oregon racked up over 600 yards on offense and were 5 for 12 on third down. Following the loss to Auburn, the Ducks picked up a needed win at home and were not only complete in all phases but also saw reserves see key time on the field including Quarterback Tyler Shough and Running Backs Darrian Felix and Sean Dollars.

Oregon Football returns to Autzen Stadium next week and welcomes Montana. Kickoff is set for 7:45 pm on Pac-12 Network.
