After defeating the Alabama Crimson Time over the weekend, the LSU Tigers are the flavor of the week atop the latest College Football Playoff Standings.

However, there is some controversy with where the Alabama Crimson Tide landed this week. The Tigers jumped Ohio State pushing the Buckeyes to second. Oregon is ranked 6th and Alabama is ranked 5th this week. In looking at the numbers this makes some sense. The Ducks ‘good’ loss against Auburn looks solid to have them in the hunt, but the way Alabama played the game at home makes me scratch my head a bit.

Oregon Football has not lost a Pac-12 Conference game and wins should keep momentum in Oregon’s favor in the weeks ahead. Both Oregon and Alabama have Conference Championship games to play and this is where the difference will come.

The Utah Utes also need to keep winning for their potential matchup in December with the Ducks. A top five or top ten matchup should be in favor of the winner for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Of course, we’re still a few weeks away from having to think about that. Some teams that made big jumps this week include an undefeated Minnesota team, who topped Penn State last weekend. The Golden Gophers jumped from 17th to 8th and sit right behind 7th ranked Utah. Another undefeated team Baylor needed several overtimes to escape last weekend and enter this week 13th.

Something that may be hurting the Pac-12 is that outside of Utah and Oregon there are no teams ranked in the Top 25 of the College Football Playoff poll. The Conference has done enough damage in beating itself up over the first two months of the season it may leave the team at the top looking in from the outside the first week of December.

Oregon Football just needs to take care of business. This week they welcome Arizona, a team on a 4-game losing streak, to Autzen Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm Pacific Time on ESPN.
