Oregon Women’s Basketball: Ionescu, Hebard Hit Milestones In Win Over Utah State

The Oregon Women’s Basketball team welcomed Utah State after a win over Northeastern on Monday. The team was still coming off the high of beating the US National Team last Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena.

Sabrina Ionescu was on watch for 2000 points in her career and Ruthy Hebard was on watch for her 1000th career rebound. Herbard hit the mark in the opening quarter of the game and Ionescu had it by the end.

Oregon opened the game with two three-pointers from Minyon Moore and Taylor Chavez before Utah State scored their first basket. Sabrina Ionescu was in the mood to share dishing out three assiss in the first five minutes of the game two to Taylor Chavez. Erin Boley hit a three-pointer to push the Ducks lead to 12 with five minutes left in the first quarter.

Two Freshman saw some early work as Jazz Shelley and Holly Winterburn were in the lineup in the final minutes of the opening quarter. Holly Winterburn ended the quarter with a three-pointer for the Ducks. Jazz Shelly also added a bucket. Oregon took a 25-10 lead into the second quarter.

Two minutes into the second quarter Minyon Moore and Ruthy Hebard were back in the game. Oregon continued to extend their lead. At the half Ruthy Hebard was on her way to a double double leading the team with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Sabrina Ionescu hit a three pointer just before the half pushing the Ducks lead to 52-26.

Midway through the third quarter, Ionescu went down on a hard foul. She was on the floor for several minutes, but was seen walking on the sideline. She returned to the floor to start the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was all Oregon as the Ducks went in an 11-0 run holding Utah State to shooting 0 for 8 midway through the quarter. The Ducks hit back to back to back layups hitting a 6-0 run in just 36 seconds.

Ionescu finished the game with 16 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds. Taylor Chavez was 6 for 9 from beyond the arc with 25 points on the night. The Ducks finished the game with a very efficient 31 assists and forced 13 Utah State turnovers in th 109-52 win..

Oregon returns to Matthew Knight Arena Saturday to face Texas Southern. Tip off is set for 2 pm Pacific time.
