The Oregon Women’s Basketball team is on a roll and face another challenge with Texas Southern on Saturday.

Texas Southern brings a two-way talent to Eugene in Niya Mitchell who was named to several preseason player of the year lists, including Defensive Player of the Year in the SWAC. Last season she averaged better than a double-double per game and will certainly have the attention of the Oregon Defense.

For the Oregon Women’s Basketball team, they will play their third game without Satou Sabally, who is overseas with the German National Team. Without her, others have stepped into and stepped up. Taylor Chavez had 25 points vs Utah State on Wednesday and was 6 for 9 from three-point range. Sabrina Ionescu finished the game with a leg cramp and was just shy of a triple-double.

Ionescu went down in the middle of the third quarter and was on the floor for several minutes before walking back to the bench under her own power. She appeared back in the game to start the fourth quarter. One player who has had a big impact is Minyon Moore.

Moore had three steals against Northeastern and is fitting in well early averaging 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. She has also shown she had the ability to get to the basket and along with Chavez has been a key player in the Ducks Pick and Roll plays.

Several Oregon players have hit career milestones already this season. Sabrina Ionescu hit the 2000 point mark vs Utah State and in the same game, Ruthy Hebard marked the 1000th rebound for her career as a Duck. There are more to come this season. Ionescu needs just 22 more assists to become the All-Time Pac-12 leader in the category. Erin Boley needs just  9 points to reach 500 as a Duck and just 70 more to reach 700 for her career.

Oregon and Texas Southern tipoff at 2 pm Pacific Time from Matthew Knight Arena.
