Oregon Women’s Basketball: Ionescu, Hebard Push Ducks Past Texas Southern

The Oregon Women’s Basketball team took care of business in a win over Texas Southern. Sabrina Ionescu was on top of her game.

Ruthy Hebard led the team in points with 31, but it was Ionescu who netted the 19th triple-double of her career. Sabrina Ionescu finished the game with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 14 assists. Taylor Chavez continued hot shooting hitting a perfect 3 for 3 from beyond the arc ending the game with 11 points. Led by Hebard, Oregon had 56 points in the paint vs Texas Southern.

The Oregon Ducks shot 53 percent from the floor while holding Texas Southern to just 36 percent. Oregon held Texas Southern’s main offensive weapon Niya Mitchell to just 12 points. She found foul trouble and was in the game for just 22 minutes. She ended the game with four fouls.

Four players finished in double figures for Oregon and Freshman Holly Winterburn finished with 9 points. This week Oregon was able to get it done without Satou Sabally who has been playing with the German National team. She will return for the next game.

Oregon led the way in efficiency with 29 assists for the game vs Texas Southern. The Ducks also had 10 steals and 3 blocks. Minyon Moore had just two points but was effective in finding her teammates. She finished the game with 7 assists.

The Ducks were also effective on the boards pulling down 51 rebounds with 34 on the defensive end.

Oregon was outscored in the fourth quarter 22-14 but were 40 of 75 from the floor in the 99-63 win to get to 3-0 on the season. The Ducks will play the next four games on the road starting next weekend against a ranked Syracuse team. Oregon meets Syracuse next Sunday at 1 pm. The team will then head to St. Thomas to play in the Paradise Jam against Oklahoma State, UT Arlington, and Louisville.
