It was a game that the Oregon Ducks never really put away. Arizona State was able to keep it close and came through with a barrage of shots in the end to win 72-66.

Despite being the 2nd ranked team in the country and a team that has been rolling past opponents by double digits so far this season, the Ducks let one get away on Friday night. As a team, they shot just 5 for 18 from three-point range. Sabrina Ionescu got off to a slow start, ending with a double-double in the loss with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Erin Boley had one of the coldest nights of the season, which is not characteristic of her at all. However, we all know the road is not an easy place to play. The competition in the game for both Men’s and Women’s basketball over the last few years means you cannot let up (if you can help it). Boley shot 1 for 6 from the floor and was 0 for 5 from three-point range.

Arizona State played the game perfectly, chipping away as the game went on, down just 10 points entering the 4th Quarter. They finished the quarter 6 for 8 from the floor and earning a win over Oregon. The Ducks shot 49 percent from the floor, but just 28 percent from beyond the arc.

ASU finished the game with 13 assists and 10 steals converting 17 Oregon turnovers into 17 points. Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard led the Ducks in scoring with 24 and 13 points respectively. It was Ionescu’s 115th double double in her career. She also hit another milestone passing 2200 points and needing just 41 points to claim the all-time scoring title for a player in an Oregon uniform.

While the Ducks lost, the top team in the country, Connecticut also dropped a game to Baylor earlier this week, snapping a 98 game home winning streak. Expect the Ducks to drop in the polls, but several teams they are facing, including Stanford next Thursday, are also ranked in the top five. The Ducks also will face Connecticut on the road this season, February 3rd.

Oregon faces their first ranked Pac-12 opponent meeting 18th ranked Arizona on Sunday. Tip time is 11 am on Pac-12 Network.
