Oregon Football has managed to get through most of the season without having COVID-19 rear it’s ugly head for a postponement or cancellation, until this week.

On Wednesday, the Washington Huskies paused team activities due to an increase of positive COVID-19 cases within the program. The team went under additional testing today according to Washington Athletic Director Jennifer Cohen.

Of course, the game this weekend is important for several reasons. First, the winner takes the Pac-12 North Division crown for this weird 2020 season and will play the winner of the Pac-12 South in the Pac-12 Championship Game. A win for either Oregon or Washington will also help improve their chances at a better bowl game.

If Washington does end up not playing this week due to the pandemic, it looks like both teams may have their regular seasons end. There was a rumor earlier Wednesday or a wish on Twitter than another team looking for an opponent, Big Ten team Ohio State, may want to face Oregon since their game with Michigan was cancelled due to COVID-19. The Buckeyes confirmed on Wednesday they will not play a game this week and will turn their focus to Northwestern next week.

Washington currently has a better record in the Pac-12 North. They are 3-1. There is another cruel twist that 2020 has thrown. If Washington does not play the game, they will win the Pac-12 North by virtue of a better record. Cohen says they have every intention to do get this game in, “I’ve spoken to our football coach multiple times today, all he wants to do and all these student-athletes want to do is play this game.”

Head Coach Mario Cristobal is also ready to play THIS game. He is preparing his team as usual and expects to see the Washington Huskies at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.

Oregon and Washington will play for the Pac-12 North. Kickoff is set for 1 pm Pacific Time on FOX.
