Oregon Basketball: Ducks Hold Off Washington To Open Pac-12 Slate
Oregon Basketball earned a win over the Washington Huskies on Saturday despite being outperformed in nearly every offensive category.
It was the first 2020 road game for Oregon Basketball traveling to Seattle. This year there was no Payton Pritchard to come though with last-second heroics. The team was also without Will Richardson who is recovering from a thumb injury. Washington gave the Ducks everything they could handle.

The Huskies missed an opportunity early in the game. Many of their shots were two-point baskets as they were just inside the three-point line. It could have made the difference. Oregon shot 38 percent from the floor and just 21 percent from three-point range. Chris Duarte and Eugene Omoruyi led the way, both with 14 points. Eric Williams Jr. and LJ Figueroa had their fair share of shots, but they did not equate to points. Williams Jr. was 4 for 11, Figueroa was 4 for 12 from the floor.
Oregon was able to find other ways to win. The Ducks had 17 bench points and 22 points off Washington turnovers. The Huskies finished with 16 turnovers. Oregon finished with 12 turnovers. Dana Altman is finding ways to get his players involved early this season, which is a standard of the program he runs. Despite the close game, there were some steps taken.
Oregon Basketball was able to finish the game with 10 more rebounds, which is always a key. The Ducks were also more efficient with their offense leading the way with 13 assists. nine of them coming from starters. Eugene Omoruyi, Eric Williams, Jr, and Avery Hardy each had 3. Chris Duarte finished with 2 assists.
Dana Altman and the Ducks now have ten days before their next game hosting the UCLA Bruins. I expect Oregon to try and get in a non-conference game in that time period in the weird 2020 season where things like scheduling can actually fall in to place. Oregon has a mini-home field advantage as the next three Pac-12 games are in Eugene.
Oregon and UCLA are set to take the court at Matthew Knight Arena on December 23rd. Tipoff is set for Noon on ESPN2.
