Head Coach Dana Altman always finds a way to get his players ready for big games. At times, it has taken until midway through the Pac-12 Conference slate for this to happen, but this team has some early chemistry to work with, even without Will Richardson in the lineup.
Last week, the Oregon Ducks also lost N’Faly Dante for the season with a torn ACL. The Ducks showed up and played their best defensive game of the season vs the Portland Pilots, holding them to shooting just 21 percent from the floor. Altman and the Ducks will need a solid effort vs the UCLA Bruins.
For the UCLA Bruins, the key is holding opponents to 70 points or less. Last season UCLA was 18-1 when this occured. So far they are 4-0 this season when this statistic stands. The Bruins are led on the court by Jaime Jaquez Jr. who is averaging better than 13 points per game. He leads four players in double figures so far this season. Tyger Campbell is leading the conference in assists with close to 7 per game.
Cody Riley had an impressive game against Ohio State last week in a loss hitting 7 of 9 from the field.
Aside from Omoruyi, the player to watch for the Ducks may be Eric Williams Jr. who has tallied double digits in rebounds in six games this season.
Oregon and UCLA meet on Wednesdsay at Matthew Knight Arena. Tipoff is set for Noon Pacific Time on ESPN2.
