Oregon Basketball: UCLA Game Cancelled Due To COVID-19
Oregon Basketball was looking forward to taking another step this season and UCLA was looking to get past a bad loss vs Ohio State last weekend, but that is now on hold.
The game was slated to start at Noon Pacific Time, which was moved to 2 pm Pacific Time after the game officials did not clear COVID-19 protocol. One of the three game officials tested positive earlier in the day. They did not associate with either team and since the officiating crew worked the game at Oregon State, contact tracing forced the game to be postponed for now.
Both teams will work to have the game made up later in the season.

Last week it was announced that the entire Houston Men’s Basketball team had been tested positive for COVID-19. Now, Oregon will not face another opponent until the end of the year on December 31st. They will host California looking to again resume the Pac-12 schedule. Head Coach Dana Altman added his concern, “We’re just gonna have to fight through, make the best of the situation, just like football did,” Altman said. “It’s just going to be one of those years.”
The team was given the option to leave campus for Christmas break and many will head home for the holidays. Altman expects his players to make good decisions while away, “”I just thought this year, with the pressure they’re under, I thought it was important that if they wanted to go home, they go home. And their families felt that, and we’re in this together. So it was an easy decision.”
Oregon Football was lucky in their navigation of COVID-19. They had just one game cancelled at the end of the season vs the Washington Huskies. Washington had an entire offensive unit that was not able to play vs the Ducks, and have since ended their season and will not play in a bowl game. NBA Games slated for the second day of the season are being cancelled due to the pandemic.
For now, Oregon Basketball will return to the court at Matthew Knight Arena on December 31st to face California.
