The 2021 NCAA Tournament field was revealed on Sunday night and Oregon basketball was one of five Pac-12 teams to make the Big Dance.

The 2021 NCAA Tournament bracket was announced yesterday and five Pac-12 teams will continue their respective seasons. We all know that Oregon was given a 7-seed after falling apart against Oregon State in the Pac-12 Conference Tournament quarterfinals last week.

The team that beat Oregon, Oregon State, found itself in the big dance as a 12-seed. The Beavers will face 5-seed Tennessee in their first matchup on Friday. The team that won the Pac-12 title game, Colorado, enters the NCAA Tournament as the highest-seeded team. The fifth-seeded Buffaloes will face 12-seed Georgetown for their first matchup.

The USC Trojans are a 6-seed and face the winner of Wichita State and Drake. UCLA will also have a chance, after showing their experience throughout the season. Honestly, they should have been seeded higher. The Bruins will have to play their way in by beating Michigan State out of the Big Ten on Thursday.

With five teams in the NCAA Tournament, the Conference of Champions is in the middle of the pack when it comes to conferences. The Big Ten has most of their conference in this year’s NCAA Tournament. If Oregon or any other teams advance, they will run into a Big Ten Team before it is all over.

For Oregon basketball, the path through the first weekend starts with VCU. If the Ducks can get the win, they will face the winner of Grand Canyon and Iowa for their second matchup. Other teams on their side of the bracket looking into next weekend include Oklahoma, who knows the Ducks well. Both teams have played closed scrimmages in recent seasons. UC Santa Barbara and Creighton are also on the Ducks side of the bracket along with number one overall seed Gonzaga.

Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Oregon will first take on VCU. The two teams earned the primetime spot on TNT and will meet at 6:57 p.m. PT on Saturday.
