Oregon women’s basketball: Jaz Shelley finds new home at Nebraska
The Oregon women’s basketball team was very heavy on players that were at the guard position. With the departure of Jaz Shelley and Taylor Chavez, that depth has taken a hit. Both players were very talented, however, both saw limited time on the floor during their time with the Ducks.
Shelley played a role on the team this past season that took her out of her element. Her numbers from her first season with the Ducks were down about 10 percent. She averaged four points and two rebounds per game putting in under 20 minutes per game in the very odd 2020 season for all of us.

In her first season with Oregon, Shelley shot 42 percent from both the field and from 3-point range.
In 2020, her numbers were 35 percent from the floor and 30 percent from 3-point range.
With Nebraska, Shelley will have not one, but two teammates from her native country. Isabelle Bourne and Ruby Porter should help Shelley feel more at home with her new team.
Nebraska is a team on the rise, finishing the 2020 season in the WNIT losing in the Round of 16 vs Colorado. They finished the season 13-13 and 9-10 in the Big Ten.
With the Cornhuskers, Shelley will fill a hole, likely at the Forward position, and should be able to find more playing time in her more comfortable position on the floor.
It will be interesting to see if she is able to get her shooting numbers back to where they were in her first season with Oregon. I expect having some additional encouragement from some fellow Australian teammates will only help Shelley acclimate to her new team faster.
