Former Oregon Ducks offensive tackle Jac’Qawn McRoy finds his next team
By Sam Fariss
Freshman Jac’Qawn McRoy announced on Monday, Dec. 8 that he would leave the Oregon Ducks and enter his name into the transfer portal. Just a few days later, on Thursday, Dec. 12, McRoy announced that he had found his next team: the Arkansas Razorbacks.
McRoy, an offensive lineman who frequently plays offensive tackle, maintained four years of eligibility after his freshman season for the Ducks.
On Thursday, the offensive tackle was on an official visit in Fayetteville, AR when he committed to transfer to the Razorbacks' program, currently led by head coach Sam Pittman. McRoy is Arkansas' first commit during this winter transfer portal recruiting cycle.
At 6-foot-8 and 360 pounds, the young lineman already has the size of elite players at the position. However, his footwork and on-field IQ are still fresh for the collegiate scene – a large part of why he didn't see the field during his freshman season under Oregon's head coach Dan Lanning.
This isn't to say that the former four-star prospect isn't talented – the Oregon Ducks just have one of the best offensive lines in the country and it would be shocking if a freshman became a starter or saw significant field time for the talented unit.
McRoy is originally from Pinson, AL so it isn't a huge surprise to see the young player choose a program that's significantly closer to home. For reference, Eugene is nearly 2,600 miles from Pinson and Fayetteville is only 569 away.
McRoy is the first Oregon Duck to enter the transfer portal and officially commit to a new program. Fellow true freshman Jaxson Jones has also entered the portal as well as redshirt freshman Tyler Turner.
