The Oregon Ducks have picked up where they left off in 2015 with back to back weeks of solid performances in Track and Field. Following a dominating performance at the UW Preview last week, Head Coach Robert Johnson watched his respective Men’s and Women’s teams pick up three wins on the opening day of the Razorback Invitational in Arkansas that included two victories and a school record.
In Distance Relays, Edward Cheserek anchored the Men’s team for the Oregon Ducks, which he did last season during the NCAA Championships. On the Women’s side, the story was similar with experience and speed with familiar names. Alli Cash and Raevyn Rogers made up the four athlete team and came in second place to Oklahoma State. The Men were impressive finishing first as Cheserek rolled to the finish in 9 minutes 30 seconds. He unofficially ran a 3 minute 55 second leg. The Women finished just past 11 minutes and 30 seconds as the intrigue begins to build early for the times that will qualify for the NCAA Championships later this Summer.
In the weight throwing competition, Oregon’s Brittany Mann broke her own record hitting at 68-7.25 leading the charge by nearly four feet in the hammer throw and setting a top 10 mark on the Women’s side in the early Indoor season. On the Men’s side of the hammer throw Greg Skipper was equally impressive with a throw of 72-2.25 good enough for a fourth place spot this season. The Decathalon on the Men’s side also featured two Oregon Ducks.
Mitch Modin and Joe Delgado finished seventh and ninth on the day respectively putting two Oregon Ducks in the top ten for the event with the second half to go on Saturday. This weekend will see also see much anticipated return of Devon Allen. The two sport athlete is recovered from a injury in last years Rose Bowl and he should be good to go for the Oregon Ducks this weekend following a comeback season with the Oregon Football team in 2015.
