Last season there was some criticism toward Oregon and a lackluster non-conference schedule so George Horton went to work in challenging his team with non-conference schedule this season that featured Alabama and Notre Dame, as well as a trip to Michigan State this weekend. The early season road trip has not worked out as planned so far for the 11-10 Oregon Ducks Baseball team.
After a fast start in the first inning and Jake Bennett driving in Austin Grebeck, the Fighting Irish took a 4-1 lead by the 4th inning and never looked back. The Oregon Ducks threatened with runners in scoring position, but could not get runners to cross home plate. Horton watched his team lose 6-3 against Notre Dame on Thursday night. Oregon Starter Isaiah Carranza gave up four runs on seven hits in just three innings of work and took the loss.
Kyle Kassar and Jake Bennett continue to produce for the Oregon Ducks. Bennett had two hits and drove in two runs in the loss and Kassar went 2 for 4 and how has multiple hits in five of his seven starts this season. Oregon managed just 7 hits against Notre Dame.
The road trip continues with a weekend series against Michigan State that begins Friday night. It was announced earlier in the week that Sunday Starter David Peterson did not make the trip. He missed last weekend’s series at Washington with an illness and did not travel this week due to injury. Oregon and Michigan State begin their three game series on Friday and a 12:05pm Pacific Time start.
