Former Oregon Ducks Defensive End DeForest Buckner has a new place to play on Sundays and he will have the weekend to celebrate with friends and family in Hawaii. Several weeks ago Buckner visited Tennessee before the Titans traded away the top overall pick to Los Angeles. The move by Philadelphia to the number two pick allowed things to shift just enough to fill an area of need for both teams, who selected Quarterbacks Jared Goff and Carson Wentz respectively.
Buckner, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year will be a cornerstone to build around for years to come. He has stength, athleticism, and speed. All three were highlighted recently on ESPN Sport Science. Oh, he can jump too. Buckner decided to return to the University of Oregon for his final season following the departure of Arik Armstead last year. In returning and being healthy most of the season he was a beast in the Pac-12 and played at a high level in every game helping the Oregon Defense early in the season as the Ducks finished with a 9-4 record. He played 80-85 percent of the snaps for the team this past season.
Buckner was selected by his former Coach Chip Kelly and the San Francisco 49ers as the 7th overall pick he is clearly a Day 1 Starter. I’m sure many Oregon fans will now have a new NFL team to follow this season to see how he performs at the next level. Bucker is the second player to be taken in the first round in back to back seasons after Quarterback Marcus Mariota was taken number two overall last season by the Tennessee Titans.
