The 2015-16 Season of Oregon Athletics has come to a close and it has been another good one.

The College Sports season typically begins with Football in the Fall, at least that is the case for the University of Oregon. The year ends with Track and Field and with the NCAA Championships along with the Women’s College World Series and the Men’s College World Series, which the Oregon Ducks will not participate in this year.  Thus the end of the 2015-16 College Sports Season at Oregon has come to a close and what a season it has been.

To start, the Oregon Football team had a new leader at Quarterback in Vernon Adams, who took over after three seasons with Marcus Mariota at the helm. Adams had a solid season leading the team to a 9-4 mark throwing 26 touchdowns to six interceptions. While he was not selected in the NFL Draft, he did  find a home in the Canadian Football League and saw his first action last week.

Following Football, we rolled into Women’s Volleyball and Men’s and Women’s Basketball. All three had successful seasons. The Women’s Basketball team made the post season and the WNIT, but the Oregon Men’s Basketball team was the storyline of the year. They took care of business at home, lost a few on the road, but managed to get to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament and nearly making it to the Final Four.

Basketball rolled into Baseball and Softball and again the Oregon Teams were primed to compete. The Baseball team started out closing in on the top ten rankings with timely hitting and shutout pitching, but it did not last long. It ended up being a roller coaster year for George Horton and Company, that saw a team in the end miss out on the post season, but also saw five players selected in the MLB Draft including three pitchers, Cole Irvin, Matt Krook, and Stephen Nogosek.

The Oregon Ducks Softball team christened Jane Sanders Stadium to open the 2016 season and saw Cheridan Hawkins do Cheridan Hawkins type things. She was dominant on the mound most of the way and Freshman Megan Kleist pulled her weight in the circle to become her replacement next season as a Sophomore. The Oregon Offense was potent, with the exception being against the UCLA Bruins.

Most Suprising Sport Of the 2015-16 For The Oregon Ducks?

UCLA won the first series in Eugene against Oregon in several years and also beat Oregon out of a chance to go to the Women’s College World Series with a best of three series win in May. The win now makes the UCLA vs Oregon Softball Rivalry very real and should lead to some good games down the line in the seasons to come.

In the end it came down to Track and Field, who finished the Outdoor Season in solid position. The Oregon Men finished 4th, the Oregon Women finished in 2nd place behind Arkansas.
