Oregon Ducks Can’t Find Offense vs Oregon State

Oregon Starter David Peterson went five innings giving up four walks and Oregon State took advantage in a big way.

The Oregon Ducks looked to even the series with Oregon State after losing Thursday night. David Peterson got the team off to a good start with two strikeouts in the first inning. The Oregon Ducks found early Offense in the bottom of the inning.

Matthew Dyer laced a double to right field with one out bringing up Spencer Steer who worked a 3-0 count off Oregon State Starter Drew Rasmussen. The Beavers Pitcher was starting his first game of the year after an injury last season and Tommy John Surgery. It was his third appearance of the season for the Beavers. Steer drew the walk putting runners on first and second.

Gabe Matthews struck out, but in an effort to get out the runner at third, Catcher Adley Rutschman threw the ball into left field allowing Oregon to score the first run of the game. Tim Susnara struck out to end the inning for the Ducks.

Oregon State scored a run when Christian Donahue stole second and the cutoff man missed the ball for Oregon allowing Rutschman to score tying the game at one.

Oregon loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth and a wild pitch scored the tying run for Oregon State. A.J Balta flew out to right, but the Ducks had Tim Susnara on third base, who ran home and scored giving Oregon a 3-2 lead with two outs. Carson Brashears struck out to end the inning.

David Peterson started the top of the fifth walking two batters and Oregon State made him pay. Steven Kwan hit a double into right field scoring two Beavers to give them back the lead 4-3 with one out. Oregon State added a run before Peterson struck out Travor Larnach to end the inning.

Peterson finished with five innings, giving up four hits, four earned runs and an uncharacteristic five walks.

Oregon had opportunities in the later innings and made them count in the eighth. Tim Susnara hit an RBI single, plating a run to make it 5-4.

In the end, Oregon State won the game, the series, and something more special. The victory was also the one-thousandth victory for Head Coach Pat Casey. The win also gave the Beavers the outright Pac-12 Title.
