It has been an offseason focused entirely on rebuilding the roster for Oregon men's basketball coach Dana Altman.
After an apparent issue related to NIL deals, eight players entered the transfer portal, leaving the Oregon Ducks without much of a team to speak for.
Over the last month, since the portal officially opened, Altman has pieced together and built a team worthy of respect once again, landing seven prospects out of the portal, adding to his top-25 group of blue-chip recruits from the class of 2026.
Most recently, former Boston College Eagles guard Fred Payne committed to the Ducks, seemingly solidifying Altman's depth chart with both skill and experience at the collegiate level.
Fred Payne commits to the Oregon Ducks
Payne spent three years with the Eagles, utilizing his redshirt during his true-freshman season. This year, he averaged an impressive 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, all career highs for the veteran guard.
The former Eagle is one of three guards in Altman's transfer portal class, but the only true point guard in the group, joining former Kentucky Wildcat combo guard Jasper Johnson and former USC Trojan shooting guard Jerry Easter II.

Former Alabama power forward Taylor Bol Bowen, San Diego State power forward Pharaoh Compton, Boise State Power forward Andrew Meadow, and San Francisco small forward Tyrone Riley make up the remainder of Oregon's portal additions.
The Ducks' class of 2027 has just three commitments, but they are all elite athletes with big expectations for their collegiate careers.

Four-star small forward Tajh Ariza, four-star center Kendre Harrison, and three-star small forward Seven Spurlock are all expected to join Altman in Eugene over the summer ahead of their true-freshman seasons.
While it undeniably hurt to lose stars like Jackson Sheltstad, Kwame Evans Jr., and other former Ducks to the portal, Altman has done a commendable job at rebuilding his program.
