The Summer months are spent by college football fans mostly counting down the days until the season begins. While everyone waits for football to return, the fans also get to take a look at the future as recruiting becomes a main focus. The month of June specifically is important as it kicks off Official Visit season, where teams make their biggest pitches to top targets.

Coming into the month of June, Oregon needed to go on a major run if Dan Lanning was going to keep his streak of signing top 5 recruiting classes. If Oregon ends up signing a top 5 recruiting class this cycle, everyone will look back at the month of June as the pivotal moment that helped build this class.

Dan Lanning struck recruiting gold during the month of June

The first weekend of Official Visits started quietly as Oregon didn't land a commitment right away, but on June 3rd the Ducks made a major addition in linebacker Toa Satele. The top player out of Hawaii ranks as the 73rd-ranked player in the country, and he brings a ton to be excited about. Satele can likely play edge rusher or linebacker giving the Ducks a ton of versatility.

The following weekend brought a group of recruits who weren't the biggest names, but gave Oregon a chance to build out this class. The Ducks ended up landing commitments from 3-star recruits Malachi Garlington, George VanSandt, and Achilles Reyna. While they aren't the type of recruits that fans get really excited about, each brings a ton to be excited about, especially with the staff's track record of development.

The following week, Oregon closed out arguably their top recruiting target when Dakota Guerrant chose the Ducks over the hometown Michigan Wolverines on The Pat McAfee Show. Guerrant is an explosive wide receiver who's extremely polished for a player his age. When he committed, Guerrant said he'll enroll early, and he'll have a chance to make a big impact as soon as he arrives on campus.

While Oregon already held commitments from in-state stars Malachi Garlington, Josiah Molden, and George VanSandt, the staff made room for another with Lake Oswego edge rusher Josh Christensen. It's often hard to compare in-state recruits to other states, but Christensen looks like a player the Ducks could move around the defensive line to find his best fit.

After signing just 3 offensive linemen last recruiting cycle, Oregon needed to sign a bigger offensive line class. Landing Lex Mailangi gave the Ducks another piece to add to a loaded room, and he brings exciting ability with great size that gives him a chance to become a starter despite the 3-star status.

Rounding out the month, Dan Lanning and the Ducks needed to hand Kyle Whittingham one last blow to their class. The Ducks ended up landing a commitment from elite tight end recruit Anthony Cartwright III. When you turn on the tape, Cartwright makes plays as a bigger wide receiver, an in-line tight end, and out of the backfield, giving him a chance to be the next great Ducks tight end.

The run of big recruiting wins is nowhere near over, and the momentum of June will instantly carry into July. Official Visits helped swing the recruitments of elite defensive back recruits Hayden Stepp and Tae Walden Jr who will commit on July 1st, with Oregon predicted to land both playmakers. Add in players like Xavier Sabb and Brayton Feister who are nearing commitments, and the Ducks are well on their way toward a top 5 class.
